About Susie Pemberton title

tubes of colourful paints My painting is inspired by the natural world and the beauty that is all around me. I make sketches in graphite, charcoal and watercolour. These, along with photographs and a strong visual memory, are used as starting points back in my garden studio. Watercolour was my first medium, followed by experimentation with mixed media, acrylic, and eventually oils. Now I use whichever medium I feel the subject most lends itself to.

Recent work has been inspired by walks on both the North and South Downs, South Devon, and the Scottish Highlands. With the natural elements for inspiration, I endeavour to capture the everchanging light and space in the landscape, together with the continual movement of the sea. A bold, emotive use of colour helps to emphasise the energy, rhythm and atmosphere of these favourite subjects.

tin of used paintbrushes I have taken part several times in the Surrey Open Studios, exhibited with Guildford Arts at both Clyde & Co, and the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre. Also at Vivartis, King Edward's School, Witley and at Petworth House. My work has also been shown in galleries throughout the UK.
